Kampung-kampung Baru is a human settlement that was created during the emergency period where it was a military strategy under the Briggs Plan (1948-1960) to overcome the threat of communist terrorists at that time. This situation has caused villages to be established without planning and hastily because the residents of remote areas or areas under communist threat were moved to a new area. This indirectly results in various problems arising where basic infrastructure such as roads and drains are in poor condition and very imperfect.
Realizing this fact, the Government has established the Village Development Division to be responsible for the development of Kampung Baru. In an effort to improve the quality of life of the people in Kampung Baru, the Government in 1986 upgraded the development of Kampung Baru from a small activity to a separate program.
In 1989, the Village Development Division was transferred and placed under the Local Government Division since the duties and responsibilities of this Division have a direct or indirect relationship with the local government. The Village Development Division was restructured and renamed to Kampung Baru Division in 2007 before being transferred to the Prime Minister's Department with effect from 7th July 2014 in the public interest. Following the formation of the new Government, the Kampung Baru Division was relocated and placed under the supervision of the Local Government Department, Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
The Kampung Baru Cina Division has transferred its functions and roles from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) to the Ministry of National Unity (KPN) effective January 1, 2022. The Kampung Baru Cina Division is now one of the Divisions under the Ministry of National Unity with a strength of 33 positions and has 2 units namely the Social Development Unit and the Physical Development Unit.
